Music for a Modern-Day Hamlet

In 1998, I was commissioned to compose and perform the music for the Napa Valley Shakespeare Festival production of Hamlet, set at the turn of the Twentieth Century. I liked the pieces so much that I expanded several into guitar solos suitable for concert performance. The music is not Elizabethan, but instead is intended to set a mood for various scenes in the play.

Edwardiana

As Music Director of the Napa Valley Shakespeare Festival, I composed many pieces that never made it into a play. When I started working on Hamlet, I wrote several compositions trying to reflect the sentimental, wistful feelings often prized in the Edwardian era, the setting for this particular production. The following pieces have been developed into a set of guitar solos that capture those moods.
