I have been playing with Michael and Carla for over four years now at the Uva Trattoria in Napa, California. We originally started as a tribute to Django Reinhardt and quickly expanded to include everything from Thelonius Monk to Chick Corea--not what you might expect from two guitars and a bass. We still enjoy playing together. (And we still love the food at the Uva!) MICHAEL BELAIR played with Flora Purim and Airto Moreira at the Russian River Jazz Festival and opened at the Mondavi Jazz Festival for such names as Stan Getz and for Chet Atkins. He led his own group at the Keystone Korner Jazz Club and the Kuumbwa Jazz Center. His first album, RELAX, YOU'RE SOAKING IN IT, was released in 1980. He contributed several tracks to the compilation CD, JAZZ ON THE VINE. Bassist CARLA KAUFMAN graduated with a BA in music from UC Berkeley and has performed with Jules Broussard, Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Clark Terry, Ed Kelly, Rebecca Paris and many others. She has been on the faculty at Jazz Camp West, the Stanford Jazz Workshop, the Young Musicians Program at UC Berkeley, and Cazadero Music Camp, and she has recorded music for national commercials at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. |
